Privacy
Orchidsy is a small, independently run orchid community site. I collect the minimum data needed to make it work and I don't sell, share, or monetise any of it.
What I collect
Account information
When you register, I store your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, I receive your name and email from that provider. You can optionally add a location, climate zone, and bio to your profile.
Content you create
Photos you upload, growing tips, comments, votes, club memberships, collection entries, and direct messages are stored in the database. Photos are saved with a random filename - no personal metadata is extracted from the image file.
Server logs
The web server logs IP addresses, request paths, and browser user agents for security and operational purposes. These logs are automatically rotated and not retained beyond a few days.
Cookies
Orchidsy uses a single authentication cookie to keep you signed in. There are no tracking cookies, no analytics scripts, and no third-party trackers.
What I don't do
- No advertising or ad tracking
- No third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, nothing)
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone
- No profiling or automated decision-making
Third-party services
Cloudflare provides CDN and security in front of the site. Cloudflare may process your IP address and request headers under their own privacy policy.
iNaturalist orchid photos are hotlinked from their servers. When you view a species page with an iNaturalist photo, your browser loads the image directly from iNaturalist.
Your rights
You can ask me to export or delete your data at any time. This includes your account, photos, tips, comments, collection, and messages. Email me and I'll sort it out.
Community photos
Photos uploaded to Orchidsy are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. You retain ownership of your photos but grant this licence when uploading.
